Energy Security Initiative: Diversity, Efficiency, Reliability

The future success of the UK both economically and as a society is dependent upon the sustained availability of affordable and environmentally responsible energy services. This, together with exciting technical developments in this area, led to the creation of the Energy Security Initiative.

Key areas in which we add to existing energy security groups include supporting a systematic dialogue among energy sector decision-makers aimed at developing:

  • A shared understanding of key issues.
  • Technologically-informed, energy policies (competitive markets, emissions trading, R & D), and economy-wide (efficiency and productivity improvements) solutions

We believe in simultaneously addressing the integrated energy system challenges, instead of focusing on individual energy technologies. The use of systems-based methods to examine these topics, can provide decision-makers with insights on robust portfolios of technology and policy options, which simultaneously address issues of timing appropriate incentives for R&D and early investment not available with traditional technology assessment and forecasting tools.

Our Vision

Our vision is to make a significant contribution through analysis, education and research leading to improved global energy security.

Our Mission and Objectives

The mission of the Energy Security Initiative is to be a neutral space where stakeholders, government and academia can:

  1. Create a self-sustaining community that through facilitated dialogue can inform decision making
  2. Develop an informed programme of research that is informed and informs decision making; and
  3. Develop an educational programme to meet the national and international requirements

We always welcomes suggestions from industry and from the academic community that are relevant to the energy security agenda.
